I was looking into the problem on my system and here is what I found. This field is updated or used for calculating interest on account balances. It does not affect calculation for interest on arrears i.e. f.2b. Therefore the field is only maintained automatically by batch input for account balance interest calculation.

I hope this will resolve the issue.
