XIR2 support already expired. SAP will not support anymore. It is too old. Since you are planning to install on VM ware, why don't you start with newer version 4.0?
XIR2 support ended in 2011. Since you are planning to refresh, why don't you guys plan for DB upgrade to SQL 2008.
